First Base PRU, Lowestoft

phonics

One of our priorities at First Base is to enable children to start learning phonic knowledge and skills systematically as soon as they start with us, with the expectation that they will be fluent readers by the end of Key Stage (KS) 1

At First Base we use approved Government phonics programmes which meets its core criteria for effective systematic synthetic phonics teaching. Our main programme is Letters and Sounds, DfE which we combine with Jolly Phonics, Read, Write inc & Dyslexia Action’s Literacy Programme to develop highly personalised phonics programmes for each child. Our approach is multisensory, cumulative with plenty of opportunities for overlearning so that children can learn variously from simultaneous visual, auditory and kinaesthetic activities designed to secure phonic knowledge and skills.
